On-demand mobility service launched for Swiss city of Wil
Transport operator Bus Ostschweiz is working with Siemens’ subsidiaries Padam Mobility and Haco on the service which provides a flexible shuttle to and from the train station.
Swiss transport operator Bus Ostschweiz has launched an on-demand mobility service for the city of Wil.
Called Salü, the service comprises web, IOS and Android apps which allows users to access information and book transport.
The technical implementation was carried out by Siemens’ subsidiaries Padam Mobility and Hacon. It marks their fifth on-demand transport project in the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) within a few months.
Flexible shuttle
The new offer services residents in Wil, Wilen, Bronschhofen and Rossrüti, providing a flexible shuttle to and from the train station from 8pm based on the train timetable. There are more than 100 virtual stops in the city to choose from. Users can search for the journey they want, book it and pay for it directly.
“With Salüi, the attractiveness of public transport in the city of Wil will be significantly increased,” said Andreas Deterling, head of offers and development at Bus Ostschweiz. “We combine comfort and sustainability with the offer – the app calculates which passengers can board when and where and determines the fastest connections.”
“On-demand transport best supports existing public transport offers when the transition from one mode of transport to the other works smoothly”
Gerd Overbeck, lead new mobility at Hacon, considers on-demand transport as a useful addition to local public transport: “On-demand transport best supports existing public transport offers when the transition from one mode of transport to the other works smoothly,” he said.
“That’s why we, together with our partner Padam Mobility, rely on easy-to-use mobility apps that make the use of on-demand transport as easy as possible in the best sense of the plan, book, pay and travel approach.”
Throughout Germany, transport company DB Regio also relies on the expertise of Padam Mobility and Hacon with its on-demand service integrated into its in-house travel information. This results in a total of more than two million journeys per year, which are booked using Padam Mobility’s software.
Additional projects, for example in the Ingolstadt area in Bavaria, will be added in the coming months.
