The platform enables more intelligent management of pavements and road assets
The UK government’s National Highways (NH) organisation has commissioned TRL Software to implement a pavement asset management system.
NH plans, designs, builds, operates and maintains England’s motorways and major A roads, known as the strategic road network (SRN).
Cloud-based
The P-AMS platform will be configured upon the cloud-based product iRoads, which is TRL Software’s commercially available off-the-shelf tool designed for various infrastructure assets. It will replace NH’s existing 20-year-old pavement management system HAPMS platform early next year.
P-AMS forms part of NH’s asset management transformation, and will help to support the delivery of its Digital Roads Strategy, creating more efficient ways of working through improved digital integration.
The new system was developed to align with its emerging asset management system strategy (AMSS). AMSS compliance will ensure the new system supports cross-asset data access and analysis, and the company’s new data model.
“P-AMS will be securely accessible from anywhere from a wide range of devices, which will enable improved analysis and decision-making, ultimately driving quicker and better outcomes”
The pavement is an essential part of the national network, with information stored in P-AMS critical for informing decisions around future requirements.
“With the new system we will have easier access to asset information, said Sarah Brookes, implementation project manager, P-AMS.
“P-AMS will be securely accessible from anywhere from a wide range of devices, which will enable improved analysis and decision-making, ultimately driving quicker and better outcomes.”
iRoads provides a unified view of asset data, combined with advanced pavement analytics developed through decades of research and insights. This is then made available to end users as reports, analytics, and insights for intelligent asset management through planning, analysis and to road network operations. iRoads also enables the creation of digital models of a road network.
Recent upgrades to the iRoads platform include: advanced pavement analytics including predictive capabilities; climate change and resilience module; citizen collaboration module; iRoads digital twin hub with IoT integration capabilities; a data marketplace for third party suppliers to supply data for directly to clients; and forward investment planning and scenario modelling using modern approaches like genetic algorithms.
“As a long-term supplier of pavement management solutions, TRL Software is excited to introduce its cloud-native iRoads digital roads platform, that has a focus on scalability, security and resilience to National Highways,” said TRL strategic ventures director Paul Zanelli.
“The customised asset management platform will be rolled out with a detailed transition plan before the current HAPMS system’s end-of-life deadline of March 2023.”
