As part of a long-term agreement, ABB will supply 1,350 chargers to the airport in partnership with energy group EWII to serve travellers and employees parking on site, as well as taxis.
Copenhagen Airport (CPH) is set to become Denmark’s largest electric vehicle charging site over the next 10 years.
As part of a long-term agreement, charging infrastructure specialist ABB is supplying 1,350 chargers to the airport in partnership with energy group EWII.
Carbon-neutrality
Copenhagen Airport (CPH), which aims to achieve carbon-neutrality in operations by 2030, had an average of 83,000 passengers passing through the terminals daily pre-pandemic in 2019, many of them taking advantage of one of the more than 14,000 parking spaces at the airport.
Some of them are already equipped with electric charging stations, but the trend shows that the need will grow over the coming years. CPH is responding to this need in close cooperation with EWII.
“It will not only serve as inspiration for other airports in Denmark but also in other countries and that it will again demonstrate the possibilities and benefits of clean, quiet and flexible electric mobility”
CPH was looking for a holistic EV charging solution for travellers and employees parking on site. The solution also needed to serve vehicles in need of faster charging including taxis dropping off travellers and businesses operating inside the airport handling transportation, luggage and catering.
“We are pleased to support CPH in their sustainable transition with our broad portfolio of quality and professional charging solutions,” said Frank Muehlon, CEO of ABB E-mobility. “We are convinced that it will not only serve as inspiration for other airports in Denmark but also in other countries and that it will again demonstrate the possibilities and benefits of clean, quiet and flexible electric mobility.”
EWII has teamed up with several partners, including ABB, to supply the charging points. The charging infrastructure will consist of chargers from ABB’s entire portfolio, from the 22kW Terra AC wallbox to the recently launched Terra 360, which it claims is the world’s fastest all-in-one electric car charger. It can reportedly deliver 100km of range in less than three minutes and is the only charger designed explicitly to charge up to four vehicles at once. The first 180 AC chargers and 15 DC fast chargers will be installed in 2022.
“With ABB as our e-mobility partner, we are assured access to a wide range of solutions that can charge everything from cars to buses and trucks. Additionally, it was crucial for us and the airport that the charging stations be both reliable and of the highest quality. As an experienced global partner, which helps to drive innovation in EV charging infrastructure, ABB performs on all parameters”, said Jesper Nicolaisen, head of wholesale at EWII.
ABB provides a range of charging and electrification solutions for electric cars, electric and hybrid buses, vans, trucks, ships and railways. ABB entered the e-mobility market back in 2010, and reports it has sold more than 680,000 electric vehicle chargers across more than 85 markets; some 30,000 DC fast chargers and 650,000 AC chargers, including those sold through Chargedot.
