The European Commission is to propose subsidies for green hydrogen known as Carbon Contracts for Difference as part of its REPowerEU scheme, which is due to be unveiled soon.  There will be strict rules put in place to ensure that the 10 million tonnes of green hydrogen production planned within the EU by 2030 do not use renewable energy that could otherwise be used on the electricity grid. Projects would only qualify if they return as much renewable electricity to the grid as they use.
